David Drinkell
We are sad to have to report we have just learnt of the untimely death of David Drinkell, formerly a member of Saint Leonard at the Hythe, Colchester, on the 26th September. His funeral was on the 8th October at Christ Church Cathedral, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, where he was organist and director of music. David learnt to ring at Saint Leonard’s, where he was organist, before going to Bristol University to study music. After leaving university he took up an appointment as organist and choir master at Saint Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall. From there he moved first to a similar post at Saint Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast and then to Saint John’s Cathedral, Saint John’s, Newfoundland & Labrador, before moving to Fredericton. He was internationally regarded as one of the finest organist of his generation. Our thoughts are with his wife, Elspeth and their family and friends.
