Maureen Jones

This message is from Maureen's son Robert.

Dear All It is with great sadness that I write to you with news that Mum has passed away. She was at home, comfortable, peaceful and in no distress at all. I was with her all the time.

Mum put up a brave fight against pancreatic cancer. Over the last year there have been many challenges but right to the end she continued the battle. Despite a tortuous course of chemotherapy she was still in the garden planting seeds, trimming bushes and making sure Monty, the dog next door, had bones to chew on!

I wanted to write to you because so many people loved Mum and I know it has been difficult for you over the last year.

People deal with the difficult aspects of life in different ways. For some this may involve sharing and being open with their grief. For Mum it was the opposite. She was a private and independent person and for her discussing the situation was stressful rather than comforting.

Please be assured that Mum was grateful for your love and I always passed on people's best wishes. You were in her thoughts. She displayed all the generous cards and messages of support at home and they meant a lot to her. I too am very grateful for the support of her friends.

As many of you know Mum didn't stand on ceremony and never wanted any "fuss" as she would say. This continued to the end and it was her wish to be cremated in private. In order to respect these wishes there will not be a gathering or funeral.

Mum was a great and understated supporter of many good causes and organisations. Should you wish to mark her passing in some way then my suggestion would be a donation to one of the organisations particularly dear to her. Mum would be horrified at people spending money on elaborate floral tributes and much rather a repair was carried out to the church or a theatre! Details of my suggested organisations are included at the end of this note.

I am sorry to be the bearer of sad news and would like to thank you all again for your kind wishes and support over the past year.

Best wishes to you all.

With warmest regards,

Robert
